PRISEAL 2 – First Announcement
PRISEAL 2 – First Announcement
We are pleased to announce the second international conference on Publishing and Presenting Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an Additional Language (PRISEAL2). The conference, hosted by the Institute of English, University of Silesia, will take place between 9 and 11 June 2011 in the Modern Languages Centre, Faculty of Philology, University of Silesia, Sosnowiec. The leading theme of this event is “Occupying niches: Interculturality, cross-culturality and aculturality in academic research.”
The first PRISEAL Conference, organized by the University of La Laguna in 2007, addressed the problems encountered by users of English as an Additional Language as they seek to make the results of their research public in an attempt to highlight specific difficulties they often face in accessing information on recent scholarly developments and sharing their own findings with others on the international academic arena. Following this stimulating meeting, PRISEAL 2 aims at a re-examination of the situation four years later by bringing together researchers and practitioners whose efforts and expertise have advanced the state of the art and practice of LSP in a variety of ways.
Possible areas of analysis include but are not limited to the following:
– Spoken and written discourse analysis;
– Cultural issues in international academic communication;
– Cross-disciplinary variation in academic discourse;
– Research genres;
– Translation and interpreting for academic purposes;
– Issues for teachers of English for Academic Purposes.
The following plenary speakers have already accepted our invitation:
– Professor John Swales (University of Michigan)
– Professor Ken Hyland (City University of Hong Kong)
– Professor Anna Mauranen (University of Helsinki)
– Professor Anna Duszak (Warsaw University)
The language of the conference is English. We invite submissions for 20-minute papers in the form of 300-word abstracts, which should be e-mailed to priseal2@us.edu.pl by 15 November 2010. The abstracts should be sent as an attachment to an email message, in either .doc, .rtf or. pdf format. Each abstract should clearly indicate the title of the talk, and may include references. The body of the email message should also contain the following information: The name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, and contact details (postal and email address). The authors will be notified of acceptance by 15 December 2010. Registration (see form on the conference website at http://ija.us.edu.pl/sub/prisealweb/ ) will open on 15 January 2011. Further information on the venue, registration, social activities and accommodation will be announced on the conference website and in the second call for papers in the course of the next few months.
